Some relationships are
unbearably painful to observe as you
stand helplessly, impotently, angrily on the outside,
wanting so badly to rescue your loved ones caught within!

LOVES'
SUBMISSION
by Nina R. Baker, November 21,
1994
In a flashing glimpse
of clarity and insight,
I saw ....
a battered,
bleeding,
badly beaten dog
crouched lowly,
submissively
as it moved
tentative and fearful
trembling,
cowering,
half crawling
toward the outstretched,
beckoning hand.
The same hand,
that had delivered the cruel,
and merciless blows of brutality....
And with its' tail
curled up
between its' quivering legs.....
with just the tip of it hesitantly,
anxiously,
trying to wag a response to the overture
the proffered touch....
Of that hand of pain and pleasure...
Of both security and insecurity...
Unsure of which it offered -
Knowing too that it
might also
strike yet again,
The wretched cur
made its' pitiful, whimpering way
journeying over the distance and the fear
that lay between them
and gently,
gratefully,
licked that hand of god.
